I'm Tooned in! What do I mean? 'Toons' or cartoons is western style of art. Kinda like Disney and Dexter's Lab. Stuff that's not in the complex anime style but in a much more simplified style.
So a lil' discussion starter:
talk a lil' bit about your art, when'd you start?
If you do who influences you and can you show some examples? :)
Do you draw anime and toonage? Do you draw one more than the other?
I don't draw anime anymore I never picked up on it in the 8 years I attempted it...in one year I got so good at tooning I got offered a job doing the video game art for a small company known as Dazalem...so that's pretty neat!
I still practice some anime once in a while...you can clearly see the influences in my drawings.
I am heavily influenced by Shane Glines, Butch Hartman, Genndy Tartakovsky and Craig McCracken...the last two especially.
if you wanna see my junk most of it is over here: http://pixelcake.newgrounds.com/

I really like Disney's art. I love how they have many different styles they use.
My favorites (in terms of art, not necessarily my favorite Disney movies) are:
Bambi
The Lion King
Treasure Planet
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Lilo and Stich
Prince of Egypt (ok, so not Disney, but it's got some amazing artwork)
It used to be my ambition to work there, but since they stopped making traditional animated features, I've lost interest in that. CG is...fine, but it can't hold a candle to their other stuff.

Did... did you seriously have to explain what a cartoon is? I'm pretty sure we all know but nevermind:
I started drawing before kindergarten so don't remember how long. My first drawing were kid doodles ya know? Later on I saw Digimon and drew them a LOT! I got really serious about drawing for two reasons:
1. people always commented me about it and it made me feel special since i didn't really have any friends or anything.
2. I saw artwork from both Romitas on the Marvel comic book side of things and was inspired. (Thank you spidey!)
Anywho, I too was heavily influenced by Craig McCracken and LOVE the guy! I mean love him and his work, especially Powerpuff Girls which is my favorite show from the US next to Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Then a thing called Yu-Gi-Oh! came out and I was so inspired to draw that artstyle, before I ever knew the word anime or even what it was. Ever since then I drew both cartoon and anime until finally 3 years ago I decided to completely stick with anime. I evolved over the years so much it's amazing. My stuff from three years ago was HORRIBLE and now I love my artwork (though not satisfied).
Right now my artwork is heavily influenced by Kazuma Kondou and Takeshi Obata.
some of my stuff is available here.

Disney's 2D stuff is definitely an inspiration to me. I would love to get into drawing in a similar style just because I love their character art.
There's a girl on DA that I watch that does a lot of really awesome Kim Possible stuff. A lot of it is lesbian stuff (which is mostly why I watch her X) but her art is lovely.
It makes me envious.

you'd be surprised. Every couple of days I have to explain to someone at my college what anime is. A lot of people don't know the term 'toon' either, which is surprising cause I live in a city that's heavily influenced by art and is constantly pumping it out :B

^well i just meant that since we all know anime(hence our reason for being here) and about 80-85% of our members are from the US or UK, then they'd know what a cartoon is since it's basically known as anime's opposite.

no need to crucify me for defining something just to be safe :|
Also to be specific, 'anime' means 'cartoon' in Japanese.
Some people draw in that style that's half anime half western (like the FusionFall "Manga" for example) and I wanted to be SPECIFIC that I meant as western as possible :|
@Khell
I love kim possible too but because I have a Shane Glines bias...he did some of the character designs for the show :3

I drew anime for all my life and now I'm trying to go to 'toon' style. It's really hard and I really respect cartoonists now.
Butch Harman definitely has a huge impact for me since I watched most of his shows since I was a kid til now. The comic artists who do DC comics and Marvel comics, are truly amazing. Lilo and Stitch and other Disney works inspired me also. I'll really miss Disney's 2-D animation. I believe the Princess and the Frog will be their last 2-D animation project. They are going all 3-D after it. =/

Personally, I don't have much inspirations from people. I really do LOVE toon art. I do mean like the Animaniacs, Mickey Mouse, LoonyToons, and Invader Zim ones.
I really just love the over-exaggerated things like life.
But if I ever think I have the skills to go try cartoons, I definitely list Daniel Adel as a model. There's 2 more other artists I love but I can't think of their names as of this moment. I only know a Peter for now. *droops*

@ TOTL: Yeah, I know all that and I'm just saying that I'm sure we all know it too. I'm sorry to come off on the offensive or something because I didn't mean it that way. Sorry, my bad.

I'm deffinatly tooned out. I like my anime/manga style and I started drawing after I got seriously into anime because I wanted to create that. I also aspire to be able to do realistic digital paintings in addition to my anime style.
I have to say that I don't like Disney that much, I can't get past the childishness of much of it, particularly the animals and any male with too much chin. That said, the Princesses, Alice, Ron Possible, there are some diamonds in there. (yes, I am a closet fan of Kim Possible, Ron's the coolest guy ever)
I like your style also TOTL, as you may remember I have one of your pictures as my wallpaper.

I love me some western animation, especially the old hand-drawn stuff such as Disney [including stuff pre-Snow White, like the Silly Symphonies], Looney Tunes and Ton & Jerry. I do like some more modern stuff as well though, but not as much as the old things and how much detail was put into each scene even though it must have taken painstakingly long.
I like the style of the Ed, Edd and Eddy animation, it's different and very cartoon-y and I've just always loved how colourful it was.
I don't know when I started drawing, I've been doodling my whole life I don't know when it developed into more than colourful scribbles and stick people however.
I usually draw more organised pieces in anime style and doodle in a cartoon style. I'm not sure which I'm better at, probably cartoons because I'm not amazing at anime people.
