You beat me to posting this.
I'm not sure what's going on, but the believe the shooters were all military. They say one suspect is dead, and two others in custody.
If it was a case of someone snapping, it would be just one person. People don't tend to "snap" in groups.

I heard about this on the radio a few minutes ago!
It's incredibly sad. I just can't believe someone could kill a bunch of people like that...it's horrible.

We won't know the motivations until the identity of the shooter(s) are revealed.

There is an unconfirmed report that the guy's name was Major Malik Nadal Hasan, and he was a doctor, supposedly specializing in mental health issues. If anyone can confirm, or finds a news report that can confirm, please add.

That was the name I saw on the news as well. He has been killed and they've arrested two others.

^ They just said that a civilian police office shot him, and was then himself shot. That would support that it was more than one shooter.
They've just said on Fox News that there's in addition to the two in custody, there's a third man wanted on the loose.

They are confirming that the suspect was a psychiatrist. The ticker on Fox News states that the FBI doesn't consider this tied to Terrorism.

Sorry for the multiple posts. They're saying that this guy got poor evaluations at Walter Reed hospital, and that he was then shipped to Fort Hood.
There was some mention of him possibly being transferred to Afghanistan.
There has been no mention of the others in custody.
EDIT:
UPDATE
It was Iraq he was due to be deployed to. Also, the others taken into custody have been cleared and released.
They're saying he was a convert to Islam, and had made some comments that suggested he opposed the U.S. presence in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A few of my buddies are at Fort Hood. I got a hold of 3 of them, 2 others I'm not sure. One was two buildings away, one was in his car and the other was off post. The other two I do not know.

If I remember correctly 31 were wounded and 12 killed, the civilian police officer among them.
It's still hard to believe this could happen.

^ An individual talking on the news now says the info that he was a convert to Islam is inaccurate. His cousin. He says his cousin was harrassed and belittled for being Muslim.
This is a family member, and so we don't know how much there is to this.
However, it is a strong possibility that religious issues are going to come into this now.

I heard about this story an hour ago. It's shocking to think that something like this could happen in a military base, of all places. Probably why the wounded count is so high, it's hard to imagine that anyone would be expecting something like this to happen.

No doubt. I already heard people on the news pondering whether it was an act of terrorism.

I just learned on Fox News that reports that the shooter was killed are incorrect. He is not dead. He is, in fact, alive, and in custody.
Also, the first responder who shot him is also alive, though injured.
Ladies and gents, get ready for the latest "Trial of the Century", though this one will definitely be strictly in the military courts.

A thought just occurred to me. Our military forces showed remarkable restraint. This coward attacked and ambushed unarmed soldiers (according to an interview with the base commander, it was not practice to carry arms in the processing center), and then, all the media was reporting he was dead.
They could have finished him off, knowing the world believed him to already be dead. And honestly, as a military brat, I wouldn't have blamed them.
Instead, they're going to offer him up for a fair trial.

Not likely. Military courts have far different standards from civilian ones.
And as he killed twelve people, he's not just walking away, not even with an insanity defense. Even if his military lawyer proves him insane, it's still going to get him life in a facility, instead of perhaps an execution.
EDIT:
I pity the poor military lawyer who gets saddled with representing this guy.

This is sad
I remember when my family used live near fort hood.
I heard that more than twelve got killed now as an update.
Im thinking that he was upset for knowing he was going to be deployed. The war really gets to people and it might have got to him. I know this is not an excuse but war can make people do crazy things. My brother had horrible nightmares after coming from Iraq because of the horrible things he saw and had to do
