Cake is a confection, composed of a mixture of flour, sugar, eggs, butter, and other flavoring agents, including

fruit flavors, or, in some cases, alcohol, such as
rum.
Cake is typically covered in a flavored cream and
sugar mixture referred to as either
icing or
frosting.
A cake can be made in multiple layers, with icing cementing them together. It can also take on a variety of shapes, including the traditional round cake, square, or even the shapes of favorite characters.
Cakes are often elaborately decorated with icing and fruit, and some, especially those for
birthday celebrations, may incorporate writing.
